The Nothe Gardens

About The Gardens

The Nothe is an area of Weymouth which has escaped modern development. In the past it has played a very important military role in the defense of Weymouth port, but now it is a more tranquil place.

The main flat top of the Nothe, once a military encampment, is public open space, suitable for playing games or sunbathing and picnicing.

There are pleasant leafy walks around the sides and rocky beaches to explore around the south coastal edge.

The Nothe Fort www.nothefort.org.uk is a magnificent stone construction on the eastern end, which guards Weymouth Bay from attack by the French!

There are information boards positioned on the Nothe, which tell the stories of the place and what is important about it. These highlight the natural history and environmental importance of some of the habitats.

There are several car parks, but walking or cycling from Weymouth are better ways to arrive.
